However, if you have an entire store, you want to make sure that visitors are able to move easily through your range of products. Additionally, you want to get the customer to see as many items as possible. You do not want them to get online and simply buy the one thing they were looking for. As a retailer, you want them to see other items of interest, which may entice them into spending more money and at the very least returning to your store in the future.

Checkout has to be simple. Online shoppers want to be able to get to the checkout fast. Once a consumer has selected what they want to buy, they do not want to waste time trying to hunt for a way to pay for their purchase. The most commonly used symbol is that of the shopping cart. This symbol has to be located in a place where the buyer will be able to see it clearly. Furthermore, the customer needs to be able to place items into their imaginary cart and then continue with their shopping.

Once they have finished making their selections the shopper is going to want to know what their payment options are. This step of the process is extremely important. Customers want to know that they are going to be able to make a safe payment. The more options that you can give your customer, the better your chances of closing the sale.

These are just a few of the basic problems that face a website designer. Designing an effective e-commerce site is a complicated process. It has to be a balance between good programming and great sales marketing techniques. Failure to have this will result in poor sales and fewer return customers.
